Female/Male Breast Reduction
Dr. Peterson has performed many breast reductions for both men and women. Although historically more common in women, breast reduction is growing in popularity among men whose oversized breasts are unsightly or uncomfortable.
Female Breast Reduction
Woman with very large breasts experience more than dissatisfaction with body image. They may also experience symptoms of back and shoulder pain, rashes, headaches or bra strap notching due to the weight of excess breast tissue and that can impair their ability to lead an active life.
Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, gland tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion to your body. In general, this surgery will not only correct the functional symptoms associated with large breasts, but also result in better proportioned breasts, enhancing a woman’s body image and self-confidence.
Most procedures in a plastic surgery office are considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance. A breast reduction, however, can provide real relief to patients suffering due to the large size of their breasts. If the patient meets the criteria of their insurance carrier, this procedure may be covered by insurance.
Patients will be on a lifting and exercise restriction of 6 weeks and wear a compression garment for 6 weeks.
Male Breast Reduction
The medical term for this procedure is gynecomastia. Although this condition is rarely talked about, it’s actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40-60% of men. It may affect only one breast or both. For men who feel self-conscious about appearance, this surgery can help.
Gynecomastia surgery removes fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting a chest that is flatter, firmer and better contoured.
